The southwest monsoon has begun withdrawing, bringing relief to residents and garba organisers ahead of Navratri. The Ahmedabad Meteorological Department has forecast clear skies and no rainfall on September 21 and 22, ensuring a warm and dry start to the nine-night festival.
On Sunday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) confirmed that the monsoon has started retreating from parts of west Rajasthan, three days earlier than usual. Conditions now favour its withdrawal from Rajasthan, Punjab, and Gujarat within the next 2–3 days.This year’s monsoon arrived early and delivered 7% above-average rainfall nationwide. Officials said kharif sowing is complete, and reservoir levels are adequate for the rabi season, ensuring no impact on agriculture.
IMD also clarified that active weather systems elsewhere in India will not affect Gujarat, brightening the festive outlook.
