The Gujarat State Yoga Board has launched a major new campaign called ‘Medasvita Mukti Abhiyan’, aimed at reducing obesity across the state. The goal: help 10 lakh people lose 10 kg each through yoga and healthy lifestyle changes—adding up to a total weight loss target of one crore kilos.Announcing the campaign in Gandhinagar, Yoga Board Chairman Shishpal Rajput said the initiative will run in three phases between September and December. It will combine yoga sessions, dietary advice, and health monitoring.At 75 locations across Gujarat, trained health teams will conduct BMI tests, offer personalized diet plans, and guide participants through yoga routines tailored for weight loss.“Obesity is linked to many health issues, and yoga can help prevent them. It’s part of our culture and also effective in managing weight,” said Rajput. “This campaign is about promoting both yoga and proper nutrition.”The Board currently runs over 5,000 free yoga classes across Gujarat, with over 5 lakh regular participants. Many have already reported notable weight loss through previous programs. With this campaign, officials plan to expand access in rural areas and set up more local centres.
