Panic spread at Gujarat University on Monday afternoon after a former temporary employee allegedly stormed into the Department of Botany, Bioinformatics and Climate Change Impact Management, threatened faculty members, and vandalised property worth ₹2.4 lakh.
The accused, identified as Tejas Rasikbhai Patel, had been dismissed a year ago for inappropriate behaviour. According to a complaint filed by department head Prof. Hiteshbhai Arvindbhai Solanki, Patel entered the premises around 2:45 pm with a stick, hurled abuses, and shouted death threats at him.
Solanki managed to escape, but Patel went on a rampage, damaging glass doors, servers, LED screens, printers, furniture, and desktop computers.Faculty members present confirmed the sequence of events.
Police have registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for criminal intimidation, trespass, assault, and mischief. Patel fled the spot, and efforts are underway to trace him.
