In a shocking case from Bhavnagar district, Gujarat, a 29-year-old married man has been arrested for allegedly raping his 22-year-old sister twice at knifepoint and branding her thigh with a lit bidi.
Police said the assaults took place on July 13 and August 22 at their home when the accused’s wife was not present. The survivor, who lives with her parents and the accused, dialed the 181 women’s helpline after the second assault and later lodged a complaint.
According to a media report, the accused, aware of his sister’s relationship with a man from their village, allegedly used it to blackmail her before sexually assaulting her. He works as a driver and is father to one child.
Police have seized the knife and the clothes used in the crime. Both the survivor and the accused have undergone medical tests, and their statements have been recorded.
The accused has been booked under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and investigation is ongoing.
