The alleged Rs 32-crore robbery at DK & Sons Diamond Company in Surat’s Kapodra has turned out to be a staged affair. Police said company owner Devendra Kumar Chaudhary (DK Marwadi) and his two sons faked the heist to claim insurance money, as the factory had been insured just 10 days earlier.
Chaudhary had claimed that robbers broke in during the Independence Day weekend, cut open the office safe, and fled with rough diamonds, cash, and CCTV equipment. But investigators found no evidence of stolen gems. Instead, they discovered that five men were hired to simulate the theft for a promised Rs 10 lakh, half of which had already been paid.
Surveillance footage, call records, and forensic evidence exposed the fraud. Chaudhary, who has been in the diamond business for over two decades and is reportedly under severe financial stress, now faces police action for staging the crime.
