Tension turned into large-scale violence in Khokhra on Wednesday after the death of 15-year-old Nayan Sindhi, a Class 10 student of Seventh Day Adventist School, who was stabbed by a Class 8 student last week and died on Tuesday.
What began as a protest by parents and community members soon turned violent, with over 2,000 people — including members of the Sindhi community and activists from Bajrang Dal, VHP and ABVP — storming the school. The mob vandalised classrooms, smashed vehicles, and assaulted teachers and staff, including the principal, even in front of police.
Police vehicles were also attacked as officers tried to rescue injured staff. The situation was brought under control only after a lathi-charge.
Senior officials admitted lapses in crowd control. Police said the accused juvenile has been booked for murder, and CCTV footage is being examined to identify rioters.
