The Admission Committee for Professional Courses (ACPC) handles online admissions for all seats in government and grant-in-aid colleges, half the seats in self-financed colleges, and a quarter in Centres of Excellence (CoEs) across 141 engineering institutes in Gujarat. The rest are filled directly by the colleges.
According to a media report, Vacancies are widespread. Mechanical engineering has 67.20% of seats empty, and civil has 65.14% vacant. New-age fields like robotics (70% vacant) and aeronautical (67.76% vacant) also struggle. Electronics engineering is the exception, with only 24% seats unfilled.
Computer science remains the most popular, with 28,220 seats this year, but over 58% are still vacant due to the oversupply of seats. Students prefer reputed colleges and skip mediocre ones, even for in-demand courses.
Overall, out of 57,758 engineering seats under ACPC, only 25,065 have been filled so far. The AICTE has extended the deadline for colleges to submit data till September 19, so final numbers are still pending.
