The Amdavad Municipal Corporation’s ambitious plan to build cement roads in West Ahmedabad has hit a roadblock, with the Road Committee withholding approval for the ₹75.60 crore proposal.
According to a media report, the proposal aimed to construct cement roads in key wards such as Paldi, Navrangpura, Vasna, Sabarmati, and Chandkheda. However, the committee chose not to move forward until key questions were addressed—particularly regarding the cost and scope of similar past projects across the city.
The proposal, which involved awarding the contract to Shreeji Infraspace at a rate 26% higher than standard costs, also specified that the contractor would be responsible for paying GST separately.
Taking a cautious approach amid ongoing concerns about cement road projects, the committee demanded a comprehensive report from municipal officials detailing where cement roads have already been built, in which zones, and how much was spent. Only after reviewing these details will the committee decide whether to greenlight the new construction plan.
