The electrification work on the rail route between Ahmedabad’s Asarva and Udaipur in Rajasthan has been completed. Following successful trials with AC electric locomotives by Western Railway and North Western Railway, the railway department has decided to operate passenger trains using electric power.
The Asarva-Indore Veerbhumi Express (train no. 19316) ran its last trip with a diesel locomotive on Saturday. It departed from Asarva at 4 pm, passing through Himmatnagar and Udaipur before reaching Indore.
According to railway sources, both the Indore-Asarva Veerbhumi Express and the Kota-Asarva Express will now operate using AC electric locomotives.
Previously, these trains switched to diesel locomotives after reaching Udaipur. This change will eliminate the need for a locomotive change, potentially reducing travel time. Passengers can expect revised train schedules in the coming days.
The electrification project began with the Asarva-Himmatnagar section under Western Railway, followed by the Himmatnagar-Udaipur section under North Western Railway. North Western Railway conducted trials of AC trains on the 100 km Himmatnagar-Udaipur stretch.
The Kota-Asarva Express (train no. 19822) will start running with AC electric locomotives from January 14. It departs from Kota every Tuesday and Friday, reaching Asarva via Udaipur and Himmatnagar the next day.
The Asarva-Kota Express (train no. 19821) will also begin operating with AC electric locomotives from January 15. It departs from Asarva every Wednesday and Saturday, passing through Himmatnagar and Udaipur before reaching Kota.
