Department of Pharmaceuticals Secretary Shri Manoj Joshi visits Amneal Pharmaceuticals in Ahmedabad

Shri Manoj Joshi, Secretary, Department of Pharmaceuticals, Government of India, visited Amneal Pharmaceuticals’ corporate office in Ahmedabadon Tuesday and met with company leaders to discuss Amneal’s growth, investments, pipeline and expanding capabilities. The discussions covered Amneal’s contribution to pharmaceutical manufacturing and innovationand its expanded biosimilars capabilities following the acquisition of KashivBioSciences.

The discussions highlighted Amneal’s growing contribution to India’s pharmaceutical ecosystem through its manufacturing footprint, investments in advanced manufacturing and R&Dand capabilities across complex generics, injectables, peptides and APIs. Amneal also shared an overview of its diversified global manufacturing expertise, innovation capabilities,partnerships and its role in supporting global pharmaceutical supply chains.

Amneal’srecent acquisition ofKashivBioSciences has further strengthened these capabilities, creating a fully integrated global biosimilars platform spanning research, development, manufacturing andcommercialisation. The combination brings together Kashiv’s biologics capabilities with Amneal’s commercial and manufacturing scale, expanding the company’s biosimilars pipeline and positioning the business for long-term growth.

The visit also included a discussion of India’s opportunity to build on its pharmaceutical manufacturing capabilities and advance biopharmaceutical innovation, including through greater investment in R&D, innovation capital, advanced infrastructure, industry-academia collaboration and regulatory science. These priorities are reflected in the Government’s proposed Biopharma SHAKTIprogramme, with an outlay of ₹10,000 crore over five years to elevate India’s biopharmaceutical ecosystem.

Dr. Parva Purohit, Senior Vice President and Head R&D, Amneal Pharmaceuticals, said, “India hasa strong foundation in pharmaceutical manufacturing and now has an opportunity to add greater depth in biopharmaceutical innovation. At Amneal, we remain committed to building capabilities across manufacturing, R&D, biosimilars and complex medicines.”

Mr Rahul Maitra, Senior VP, Human Resources,Amneal, added, “We are encouraged by Mr Manoj Joshi’s visit and the productive discussion towards skill development efforts that are underway within the existing government schemes. Pharmaceuticals industry in India is growing rapidly, both in terms of R&D as well as manufacturing.  Hence it is important that equal emphasis is laid on industry-academia- government collaborations to attain trained and industry-ready workforce.”

During the visit, Amneal leaders and SecretaryManoj Joshi discussed the company’s investments and growing capabilities across manufacturing, R&D, biosimilars and complex medicines. The discussion also covered the challenges and enablers for biopharmaceutical growth, including innovation capital, advanced research infrastructure, industry-academia-government collaboration and regulatory science.

The interaction reinforced the importance of continued government-industry collaboration to strengthen India’s biopharmaceutical capabilities, advance innovation and support investment in advanced manufacturing.
