A driver with the Amdavad Municipal Transport Service (AMTS) is being sought by police after CCTV footage emerged showing a bus fatally striking a two-wheeler rider before fleeing the scene.
The incident occurred on April 19 at a busy intersection in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The video shows the AMTS bus colliding with the two-wheeler, driven by 52-year-old Naveen Patel. Patel is seen falling to the ground, and the right rear tire of the bus runs over his head.
Bystanders, including those on bikes and auto rickshaws, are seen passing the scene without stopping to help. The bus driver continued driving and remains at large.
Patel, a wood businessman, was reportedly on his way home from a mill in Behrampura to collect a file when the accident occurred.
Police have registered a case against the driver and are investigating the incident. The bus, contracted to Arham Travels, has been impounded.
According to authorities, this is the latest incident in a string of AMTS bus accidents. In the past five years, there have been 1,215 accidents involving AMTS buses in Ahmedabad, resulting in 56 fatalities.
