A 40-year-old man arrested in Ahmedabad for allegedly being in possession of 229.7 gm of mephedrone drug worth Rs 22.97 lakh.
The accused, identified as Zakir Hussain alias Jijingo (40), was apprehended from his home in the Vatva area.
He was remanded to police custody by an Ahmedabad Magistrate Court on Thursday until September 14.
The accused procured from Rajasthan and delivered drugs in small proportions to Ahmedabad, and various parts of Gujarat and Maharashtra. police identifying his sources in Ahmedabad and Rajasthan and further investigation is underway. The accused had been dealing in mephedrone for six months.
The accused was bringing the mephedrone drugs from the Devaldi village of Pratapgarh district of Rajasthan and selling them to drug peddlers of Dariyapur and Vatva areas in Ahmedabad.
The accused has been charged with the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act under sections 8(c) (sale, purchase, and consumption of narcotic drugs), 22 (c) (contravention involves commercial quantity), and 29 (abetment and criminal conspiracy).
The accused has past criminal antecedents with five FIRs lodged in various police stations of the city such as Karanj, Kalupur, Ramol, and Karjan.
