Senior police officials from Ahmedabad shared a meal with tribal students from Dahod, Gujarat, who were assaulted by police on their way to take college admissions. The senior police officers organized the meal.
They also presented the students with flowers and wished them well in their future.
A family along with a few students was travelling from Dahod to Gandhinagar on Wednesday morning. They were headed to Chiloda’s Sahjanand school of achiever to take college admissions.
While they were passing through Odhav, the police stopped them at a checkpoint. The Odhav police and home guards deployed at the spot asked all the students to deboard the vehicle. The students had all the required documents on them.
However, the police started assaulting the students by slapping them and beating them with a plastic pipe. They also demanded Rs 10,000 from the students. When the students said they only had Rs 6000, the police took the entire amount and left them.
A senior police official said, “We have registered a case against four cops in the matter under relevant sections of the IPC and the atrocity act. The case was transferred to the SC/ST cell of Ahmedabad police and all cops have been put under arrest. Further action will be taken against the cops.”
All the police officials involved in the incident were arrested on Thursday after a complaint was filed against them
