After rising for two straight days, new Covid-19 cases in the state declined by nearly 15% on Thursday, even as the state government extended the night curfew in Ahmedabad and 26 other cities and towns by a week until February 11.
The state reported 7,606 Covid-19 cases on Thursday, as against 8,934 a day earlier, according to state health department data. Ahmedabad city witnessed a decline in cases to 3,118 from 3,309, while the tally in Vadodara city fell sharply from 1,512 to 1,127. Gandhinagar city reported 354 cases.
Vadodara rural (286), Rajkot city (238), Mehsana (230), and Surat city (227) cases reported more than 200 cases. Forty-seven more persons tested positive for Covid-19 in Ahmedabad rural.
The pandemic’s death toll surged to 10,579 on Thursday as 34 more patients succumbed to the Coronavirus. Ahmedabad city once again topped the fatality numbers with 10 deaths, followed by Vadodara city with four deaths, and Surat city, Surat rural, and Bharuch with three deaths. Gandhinagar city and Rajkot city reported two deaths, and Kheda, Bhavnagar city, Morbi, Jamnagar city, Valsad, Panchmahals and Bhavnagar rural one death.
The number of active Covid-19 cases in the state fell to 63,564 with 13,195 cases recovering from the virus. So far, more than 11.11 lakh or 93.75% of patients have recovered from Covid-19.
The Covid-19 vaccination in the state crossed 9.90 crore as 3.87 lakh vaccine doses were administered in the last 24 hours, the health department said. So far, more than 27.76 lakh beneficiaries in the 15-18 age group have been vaccinated, while 14.91 lakh recipients have been given the precaution dose.
Separately, following a meeting of the core committee, the Gujarat government extended the night curfew in 27 cities and towns until February 11. Attendance in political, social, educational, cultural, and religious events has been capped at 150, while 300 persons have been allowed in marriages held in open venues.
