The number of deaths due to Covid-19 in Gujarat continues to increase. As many as 38 patients succumbed to the infection in 24 hours ending Tuesday evening, the state health department said.
After consistently declining over past few days, the daily tally of Covid cases rose on Tuesday with 8,338 persons testing positive for the infection, a nearly 25 per cent jump from 6,679 the previous day.
Ahmedabad city accounted for 2,654 cases and 8 of the 38 deaths.
The case tally in Vadodara city rose sharply from 809 on Monday to 1,712 on Tuesday.
Vadodara rural recorded 484 cases, followed by Rajkot city (475), Surat city (257), Patan (224), Gandhinagar city (223), Banaskantha (212) and Kutch (210).
The other cities had less than 200 cases.
Rajkot city recorded 4 deaths, Vadodara city, Surat city and Bhavnagar rural had 3 deaths each, Rajkot rural, Surat rural, Bhavnagar city, Gandhinagar rural and Navsari 2 deaths each. Other places that recorded one death each were Panchmahals, Jamnagar city, Valsad, Amreli, Jamnagar rural, Devbhumi Dwarka and Botad.
With 16,629 patients recovering from Covid-19 in 24 hours, the recovery rate rose to 92.65%.
The active caseload reduced to 75,464.
Over 4.49 lakh individuals got vaccinated against Covid-19 during the day, taking the cumulative vaccination figure to more than 9.83 crore.
