Passengers travelling on select railway routes through Gujarat will get some relief from January 2027, as six superfast trains are set to be reclassified as regular express services. With the removal of the superfast surcharge, ticket prices will come down by ₹15 to ₹75, depending on the travel class.
The revised classification will also bring changes to the train numbers. The Jodhpur–Hadapsar Daily Superfast Express, which runs via Sabarmati in Ahmedabad, will operate as an express train under new numbers 14809 and 14810 from January 3, 2027.
The train, currently numbered 20495/20496, connects Jodhpur and Hadapsar in Maharashtra. Its route, existing stoppages and operating timings will remain unchanged. The reclassification is expected to benefit passengers travelling on this route, including those boarding from Ahmedabad.
How much will passengers save?
With the withdrawal of the superfast surcharge, the fare reduction will vary according to the class of travel:
- General/Second Sitting (2S): ₹15 per ticket
- Sleeper Class: ₹30 per ticket
- AC Chair Car and Third AC: ₹45 per ticket
- Second AC and First AC: ₹75 per ticket
Four Western Railway trains to get new numbers from January 1
Western Railway will also reclassify four trains as regular express services from January 1, 2027. Their revised train numbers will be:
| Existing train number and route | New train number |
|---|---|
| 12927 Dadar–Ektanagar | 19067 |
| 12928 Ektanagar–Dadar | 19068 |
| 20959 Valsad–Vadnagar | 19059 |
| 20960 Vadnagar–Valsad | 19060 |
The changes are part of the railway administration’s decision to remove the superfast surcharge from the identified services, providing passengers with lower fares.
