Boating activities at Ahmedabad’s Kankaria Lake will resume from Tuesday after remaining suspended since the 2024 Harni Lake tragedy in Vadodara. Ticket prices will range from Rs 60 to Rs 300 per person, depending on the type of ride.
Pedal boat rides will be available at Rs 60 per person, while Shikara and Gypsy rides will cost Rs 150 each. Speedboat and pontoon boat rides have been priced at Rs 160 per person. Tickets for the Floating Café will cost Rs 260 for children and Rs 300 for adults.
The decision to reopen boating services follows approval from the City Waterside Safety Committee, which was formed after the Harni Lake tragedy to ensure that boating facilities comply with the Gujarat government’s boating policy and standard operating procedures (SOPs). After reviewing the safety arrangements at Kankaria, the committee unanimously cleared the resumption of activities.
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) said all required permissions, certificates and insurance documents had been verified. Officials from the NCC Navy also inspected the site and expressed satisfaction with the arrangements.
As part of the safety measures, an emergency response centre equipped with 360-degree glass views and CCTV surveillance has been set up. Fire department personnel will monitor the facility. Other arrangements include round-the-clock medical services, an ambulance, more than 350 life jackets, a public announcement system and safety instruction boards.
Wearing life jackets will be compulsory for everyone participating in boating activities.
