Despite claims of a pollution-free Ahmedabad, the city is grappling with alarming air quality issues. A recent report indicates that as of October 2026, residents haven’t experienced a single day of clean air. The reality starkly contrasts the promises made by local officials.
In fact, throughout October alone, Ahmedabad recorded 179 days of ‘moderate’ air quality out of 303 days, with an additional 70 days classified as ‘very harmful to health.’
The city’s industrial emissions are a significant contributor to this deterioration. Smoky plumes are regularly released from factories at night, exacerbating pollution levels. Additionally, poorly maintained roads and ongoing construction projects stir up dust clouds that further compromise air quality.
The situation raises serious concerns when juxtaposed with the millions spent on environmental improvements. While funds are flowing for initiatives aimed at reducing pollution, the ground reality reveals an unsettling truth: Ahmedabad’s air is becoming increasingly toxic.
This decline in air quality is particularly troubling as winter approaches. With Diwali just around the corner, experts worry that pollution levels could skyrocket even higher during this festive season.
The gap between governmental assurances on paper and actual conditions poses a significant threat to public health in Ahmedabad. Residents find themselves caught in a battle against worsening pollution despite official commitments to clean the city’s air.
