Apple users in India have been advised to update their devices after the Indian government’s cybersecurity agency, CERT-In, reported multiple security vulnerabilities in Apple software.
The advisory, issued on October 28, 2026, covers several Apple products, including iPhones, iPads, MacBooks, Apple Watches, Apple TV, Apple Vision Pro and Safari.
According to CERT-In, the security flaws could allow attackers to execute malicious code, access sensitive information, bypass security restrictions, gain higher system privileges or cause devices to crash.
The agency warned that these vulnerabilities could expose affected systems to potential cyberattacks if users continue running vulnerable software versions.
Which Apple Devices Are Affected?
The warning applies to multiple versions of Apple’s operating systems and software.
- iPhones and iPads: Users should check whether their devices are running vulnerable versions of iOS or iPadOS.
- MacBooks: The advisory covers affected versions of macOS Sequoia, macOS Tahoe and macOS Golden Gate.
- Apple Watch, Apple TV and Apple Vision Pro: Users running vulnerable software versions should check for available updates.
- Safari browser: Users should also ensure they are running a secure, updated version of the browser.
Users should refer to CERT-In’s advisory and Apple’s official security updates page to identify the affected versions and corresponding fixes.
How Can These Security Flaws Affect Users?
CERT-In has identified several types of software weaknesses, including memory corruption, buffer overflow and improper input validation.
Attackers could potentially exploit these flaws through specially crafted web pages, files, images, audio, videos or fonts. A successful attack could result in unauthorised access to sensitive information, the execution of malicious code or the bypassing of security protections.
However, the advisory does not mean that all Apple devices have been compromised. The actual risk depends on the software version installed and whether the vulnerabilities can be successfully exploited.
What Should Apple Users Do?
CERT-In has advised users to install the relevant software updates released by Apple to address the security vulnerabilities.
Here is how to check for updates:
- iPhone and iPad: Open Settings, select General and tap Software Update.
- MacBook: Open System Settings, select General and click Software Update.
- Apple Watch: Open the Watch app on your paired iPhone and check for software updates.
- Other Apple devices: Check the device’s settings for available software updates.
Users can also visit Apple’s official security updates page to review the latest fixes and determine whether their devices require an update.
Keeping devices and browsers updated is one of the simplest ways to reduce exposure to known security vulnerabilities.
