Seven students from Ahmedabad secured all-India ranks in the Chartered Accountancy (CA) Intermediate examination held in September 2026, with disciplined study routines and strong determination playing a key role in their success. Prasham Shah topped the city with All India Rank (AIR) 5, while Anuj Modi, a Gujarati-medium student from a small village in Patan, secured AIR 9.
Other Ahmedabad students who secured all-India ranks were Ayan Shah at AIR 11, Diya Thakkar at AIR 33, Heet Vakil at AIR 37, Het Doshi at AIR 41 and Harshinee Shah at AIR 42.
Prasham Shah Aims to Become First CA in His Family
For city topper Prasham Shah, securing AIR 5 brings him closer to his goal of becoming the first chartered accountant in his family. He said he limited his social media use to academic research during his preparation.
“I completely switched off from social media. I believe you first have to win the battle within yourself to develop the discipline needed to achieve your goals. My parents have been my biggest motivation,” he said.
Prasham also credited his finance-specialist tuition teacher from Classes 11 and 12 for inspiring him to pursue chartered accountancy.
Anuj Modi Proves Doubters Wrong
For Anuj Modi, securing AIR 9 was a significant personal achievement. Coming from a Gujarati-medium background, he faced doubts from people around him about his ability to clear the national-level examination.
“I come from a small village in Patan and studied in Gujarati medium. People around me doubted whether I could clear the examination, but hard work helped me prove them wrong. I studied for 12 to 13 hours daily,” Anuj said.
His achievement also fulfilled his grandfather’s unfulfilled dream of becoming a chartered accountant. Despite his demanding study schedule, Anuj made time for an hour of cricket every day.
Ayan Shah Highlights the Importance of Disciplined Screen Time
Ayan Shah secured AIR 11 after studying for six to eight hours daily. As a first-generation CA aspirant, he credited his family’s support for helping him through the preparation process.
Unlike students who completely avoided social media, Ayan continued using platforms such as Instagram while maintaining control over his screen time.
“I was using Instagram and other social media platforms during my preparation. The key is to learn how to use them in a disciplined manner without letting them affect your studies,” he said.
Diya Thakkar Emphasises Regular Revision
Diya Thakkar secured AIR 33, becoming the fourth-highest-ranked student from Ahmedabad among the seven rank holders. She said regular revision was particularly important for preparing for theoretical subjects.
“I used to study for eight to 12 hours daily. Theoretical subjects take time to understand and remember, so revision was very important. My family remained my biggest motivation throughout the journey,” she said.
Having cleared the Intermediate examination, Diya is now focusing on the CA Final examination.
Ahmedabad Centre Records Higher Pass Rates Than National Average
The Ahmedabad examination centre recorded higher pass percentages than the national average across all three categories of the September 2026 CA Intermediate examination.
For candidates appearing in both groups, 245 out of 1,375 candidates cleared the examination, recording a pass rate of 17.82%. This was higher than the 6.55% recorded in May 2026 and the 13.19% recorded in January 2026.
In Group One, 350 out of 1,416 candidates passed, registering a pass rate of 24.72%. In Group Two, 163 out of 740 candidates qualified, taking the pass percentage to 22.03%.
At the national level, 5,066 out of 38,339 candidates who appeared for both groups passed, recording a pass rate of 13.21%.
For Group One, 23,210 out of 1,00,301 candidates passed, resulting in a pass percentage of 23.14%. In Group Two, 12,938 out of 68,400 candidates qualified, recording a pass rate of 18.92%.
The results highlight Ahmedabad’s performance in the examination, with its pass percentages exceeding the national figures across all three categories.
