Gujarat’s medical and healthcare education sector continues to face a significant admission shortfall, with more than 35,000 seats in nursing and allied health courses remaining unfilled even after four rounds of counselling. Self-financed colleges account for the largest share of the vacancies, while seats in MBBS, BDS and AYUSH programmes also remain available.
According to the latest admission figures, only 17,266 of the 53,206 sanctioned seats in nursing and allied health courses have been occupied, leaving 35,940 vacant. The backlog is particularly high in self-financed institutions, where 13,785 seats in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM), 10,514 in BSc Nursing and 8,798 in Auxiliary Nursing and Midwifery (ANM) remain unfilled. Physiotherapy courses at these colleges have an additional 2,655 vacant seats.
The fourth counselling round brought limited progress, adding just 312 admissions. Of the 4,563 candidates who completed the choice-filling process, 446 received fresh allotments and 159 were assigned different seats. In medical and dental programmes, 118 MBBS seats and 104 BDS seats remain vacant after the third round. Eligible candidates can submit fresh choices until 5 pm on October 19, although those already allotted seats in the third round, candidates who have confirmed admission and those allotted seats in the All-India Quota stray vacancy round cannot participate.
Meanwhile, the third round of counselling for BAMS and BHMS courses is in progress. The current vacancies include 945 BHMS seats yet to be allotted and 354 seats left vacant because candidates did not report under the State Quota. Another 371 BHMS seats remain unallotted under the All-India Quota for self-financed institutions. Registration for BAMS and BHMS will continue until October 20, with document verification scheduled to remain open through October 21.
