Producer Ekta Kapoor has announced a sequel to The Dirty Picture, 15 years after the original film was released in 2011. Speaking on Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast, she revealed that work on the sequel has already begun. However, the makers have not yet announced who will play the lead role.
Ekta said the sequel will once again focus on a woman’s story. The original film starred Vidya Balan as Silk Smitha, an iconic figure of the 1980s, and received a strong response from audiences for her bold performance. The film also featured Naseeruddin Shah, Emraan Hashmi and Tusshar Kapoor.
Directed by Milan Luthria and produced by Ekta Kapoor, the 2011 film was inspired by the life of South Indian actress Silk Smitha. Ekta said she never viewed Silk Smitha as a victim but as a woman who embraced her choices and lived life on her own terms.
The announcement has sparked interest among fans, who are now waiting for more details about the sequel.
