The Vidarbha Taxpayers Association (VTA) has wholeheartedly welcomed the latest decisions of the GST Council under GST 2.0, describing them as progressive, taxpayer-friendly and much-needed reforms towards simplifying India’s taxation system and improving the ease of doing business.
VTA expressed its sincere gratitude to Hon’ble Union Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, the members of the GST Council and representatives of the Central and State Governments for their collective efforts in rationalising GST provisions, easing compliance requirements, facilitating faster refunds and reducing unnecessary legal complications.
VTA President Shrawan Kumar Malu stated, “The GST reforms are a welcome step towards creating a simpler, more transparent and business-friendly taxation system. Genuine taxpayers are the backbone of our nation’s economy. They contribute to nation-building by honestly fulfilling their tax obligations and must be treated with dignity and respect. Tax laws should facilitate compliance rather than create fear of harassment or unnecessary litigation.”
Malu further emphasised that honest taxpayers should not merely be protected from harassment but should also be recognised and rewarded for their contribution to the country’s development.
VTA Secretary Tejinder Singh Renu appreciated the GST Council’s emphasis on decriminalisation, rationalisation of prosecution provisions, simplified procedures and faster refunds.
“Taxpayers who honestly pay their taxes are partners in nation-building, not adversaries of the tax administration. While deliberate tax evasion must be dealt with firmly, genuine procedural mistakes and minor compliance lapses should not expose honest businesses to disproportionate penalties, prosecution or harassment,” Renu stated.
He further suggested that the Government should introduce a special recognition and privilege framework for consistently compliant taxpayers, offering benefits such as priority services, faster refunds, simplified scrutiny procedures, dedicated grievance redressal and recognition certificates. Such privileges, without compromising necessary regulatory checks, would encourage voluntary compliance and foster mutual trust between taxpayers and the Government.
VTA expressed confidence that these reforms would reduce unnecessary litigation, improve business confidence and strengthen India’s economic growth.
The Association urged the Government to continue moving towards a taxation system built on the principles of trust, transparency, fairness and respect for honest taxpayers, reiterating that rewarding tax compliance is equally important as penalising tax evasion.
