A doctor at Ahmedabad Gastro and Liver Hospital in Memnagar has been arrested after a 25-year-old MBA student alleged that he conducted inappropriate physical examinations without her consent.The student, originally from Hyderabad and studying at a reputed institute in Vastrapur, approached the Vastrapur police after informing her family about the alleged incidents.
According to her complaint, she had first visited the hospital a few days earlier after suffering from stomach pain and fever. Dr Vraj Patel of Thaltej examined her, reviewed her blood reports and sonography results, and prescribed medication. He reportedly diagnosed her with an ulcer.When her condition did not improve after completing the prescribed medication, she returned to the hospital with her father.
During the second visit, Patel examined her and spoke to a senior doctor over the phone, after which she was admitted for further treatment.The student alleged that while she was hospitalised, Patel conducted a physical examination without obtaining her consent.
She reportedly felt uncomfortable as no female doctor or nurse was present during the examination.She further alleged that Patel conducted another physical examination the following day after closing the door of the room.
After being discharged, the student informed her family about the alleged incidents and later approached the Vastrapur police. Based on her complaint, police registered a case against Patel and arrested him. The allegations are under investigation.
