India added another gold to its Asian Games tally on Friday as Ankita Bhakat, Kirti and Kumkum Anil Mohod defeated South Korea 5-3 in the women’s recurve archery final at Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
The Indian trio produced a composed performance despite strong winds at Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park. After the opening two sets ended level, India gained the crucial advantage in the third set. South Korea, represented by Kang Chae-young, Lee Yunji and Oh Yejin, finished the set with 52 points after three consecutive 8s, while the Indian side posted 55 to move ahead.
The fourth set again went down to the wire.South Korea accumulated 54 points, while India initially matched that score after Kirti’s 8 was changed to a 9 following a review.With the set ending in a draw, India secured the overall 5-3 victory and the gold medal.South Korea’s lineup included reigning world champion Kang Chae-young.
India had reached the final after overcoming China 5-1 in the semifinal. The gold took the country’s medal tally at the Games to 67, comprising 11 gold, 23 silver and 33 bronze medals. Indian archers had earlier won bronze in the women’s compound team event at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou.
