Ahmedabad city police have planned a multi-layered security and traffic management system for Navratri to ensure the safety of thousands of Garba revellers.
The arrangements include AI-enabled CCTV cameras for crowd monitoring and facial-recognition systems to identify repeat troublemakers.City Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gahlaut held a coordination meeting on Wednesday with police officials, SHE team personnel, Garba organisers and Fire Department officials to review security arrangements for the festival.
Gahlaut directed Garba organisers to obtain all required permissions and licences at the earliest. Station House Officers (SHOs) were asked to coordinate with organisers and help expedite mandatory clearances, including fire, structural stability and electrical safety NOCs. Organisers have also been instructed to clearly mention the venue where each Garba event will be held.“With large crowds expected at open plots, halls and temporary structures, the focus is on crowd management.
CCTV cameras will be installed at venues, and AI-based technology will be used to monitor crowd density,” Gahlaut said.He added that photographs of people who had previously created disturbances at Garba venues would be fed into facial-recognition systems installed at selected locations.SHE teams will be deployed at Garba venues to prevent harassment and misconduct. Traffic and local police teams will also remain deployed on roads until revellers have safely dispersed.
Gahlaut urged people attending Garba events to cooperate with the police and follow the safety and traffic guidelines.
