At least two students from Ahmedabad have secured places in the top 50 of the NEET-PG examination, according to preliminary information. Hrisha Bhansali secured All-India Rank 25, while Ved Ambani ranked 30.
More students from Ahmedabad could feature among the top ranks as further details emerge.
The National Board of Examinations declared the NEET-PG results on Thursday for the examination held on August 30. Scores were lower this year compared with last year, and the merit level is also expected to decline.
Around 2.63 lakh of the 2.73 lakh registered candidates appeared for the examination. Nearly 15,000 candidates from Gujarat had registered.
The result was delayed after a technical issue at an examination centre in Jaipur led to a re-examination.
The examination pattern was also changed this year. The maximum marks were reduced from 800 to 720, while the number of questions was cut from 200 to 180.
According to the result data, 86,120 candidates scored below 200 marks. Another 71,507 candidates, or 26.20%, scored between 200 and 299 marks. As many as 56,603 candidates scored between 300 and 399, while 39,618 scored between 400 and 499.
Only 11,997 candidates scored between 500 and 599 marks, while just 114 scored between 600 and 641. Overall, around 5% of candidates crossed the 500-mark level.
Experts estimate that around five candidates from Gujarat could have secured places in the national top 100.
The 50,000th rank this year was secured at 403 marks out of 720, compared with 427 out of 800 last year. The top ranker scored 641 marks this year, compared with 707 last year.
The qualifying cutoff has been set at 262 marks for General-EWS, 244 for General-PwD and 226 for SC, ST and OBC candidates.
