The Gujarat government and the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board have decided to conduct separate board examinations for open school students for the first time. The move aims to give students who have dropped out or could not continue regular schooling another opportunity to complete their education.
Special exam for Class 10 and 12 general stream students
The special board examination will be conducted in November-December for students who want to appear as external candidates in the Class 10 and Class 12 general stream. The exact examination dates have not been announced yet. The detailed schedule is expected to be released soon.
Survey highlights dropout concerns
The government conducted a survey to identify students who had stopped attending school or discontinued their education after Class 8 or Class 10. The survey found that a number of students had left their studies midway.
To provide such students with another opportunity to continue their education, the government decided to introduce a separate board examination for external students under the State Open Schooling system. The examination will be held in November-December after receiving government approval.
Online forms can be filled till October 10
The online registration process for the special examination has already started. Students who wish to appear for the exam can submit their forms online until October 10.
Second opportunity to appear for board exams
The National Institute of Open Schooling conducts Class 10 and Class 12 examinations multiple times a year. Following this model, the Gujarat Education Board has decided to conduct Class 10 and Class 12 examinations twice a year under the State Open Schooling system.
The move will give students who are studying as external candidates and those who missed previous board examinations another opportunity to appear for the exams and continue their education.
