The Ahmedabad Food Department has sealed four food units after inspections found suspected adulteration, poor kitchen hygiene, unsafe cooking oil and expired food items.
Shreeji Dairy Parlour sealed over suspected adulterated ghee
During an inspection at Shreeji Dairy Parlour in Chanpur, officials suspected that vegetable fat was being sold as pure ghee. A previous sample from the parlour had also reportedly tested positive for vegetable fat. The unit was sealed following the inspection.
Juhapura restaurant sealed over poor hygiene
Officials inspected Majlis Restaurant in Juhapura and found that proper hygiene and sanitation standards were not being maintained in the kitchen. The restaurant was sealed for failing to follow the food safety requirements under Schedule 4.
Dalvada Centre’s cooking oil records 32.1% TPC
During an inspection at Rajasthan Dalwada Centre in Isanpur, the cooking oil being used was found to have 32.1% Total Polar Compounds (TPC). Under food safety rules, cooking oil with TPC above 25% cannot be used for preparing food. The unit was sealed.
Expired food found at Ranip unit
Following a complaint, officials inspected Shantinath Jain Home Industries in Ranip and found expired food products. The unit was sealed and action was taken as per the rules.
More food inspections planned
The Food Department said inspections of food businesses will continue. Officials will check FSSAI licences and registrations, kitchen cleanliness, food storage, expired products and the quality of cooking oil.
Food businesses have also been directed to properly dispose of used cooking oil and maintain records of its use and disposal. Action will be taken against units found violating food safety and hygiene rules.
