Anger among farmers over the discharge of contaminated and chemical-laden water in five villages of Dholka taluka in Ahmedabad district has intensified. Farmers have been protesting in Bhetawada village for the past 25 days, demanding a permanent solution to the pollution problem.
Vadgam MLA Jignesh Mevani has joined the protest in support of the farmers. Before the protest, Mevani visited Bhetawada, Nesda, Paldi, Ambareli and Trasad villages, where he met residents and heard their concerns.
Farmers claim 10,000 acres of farmland affected
Mevani has alleged that the release of untreated chemical water has severely affected agricultural land in Dholka taluka. He claimed that around 10,000 acres of fertile farmland have been damaged due to the pollution.
He also claimed that 54 people in the affected area have died from serious diseases, including cancer. These claims have been raised as part of the ongoing protest over pollution and its alleged impact on local residents.
Dholka bandh announced for September 24
In response to the issue, Mevani has announced a Dholka bandh on September 24. A large rally is also planned towards the provincial office.
The protesters are demanding a permanent solution to the discharge of contaminated water. Mevani has warned that if the issue is not resolved, the movement will be intensified.
