India opened its medal account at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games with a silver medal in the women’s 10m air rifle team event on Sunday.Elavenil Valarivan, Sonam Maskar and Vidarsa Vinod combined to finish with a team score of 1898 points, securing second place behind China.Elavenil produced a strong performance with a score of 633.5 points and also qualified for the individual final. Sonam Maskar also advanced to the individual final.
The Indian shooting trio’s performance gave the country its first medal of the Games.Meanwhile, Suchika Tariyal also secured a medal for India in the women’s traditional 60kg MMA event. She defeated Altanchimeg Baigalmaa to enter the semifinals.Baigalmaa started aggressively in the second and final round, putting Suchika under pressure.
However, Suchika defended well and then produced an important reversal to take her opponent to the ground.She maintained control until the end of the round to secure the victory and book her place in the semifinal.With her win, Suchika confirmed another medal for India at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
