Seven Ayurvedic Colleges in Gujarat Lose Recognition Amidst Scandals

In a significant shake-up for medical education in Gujarat, seven private Ayurvedic colleges have lost their recognition from the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM). This decision follows a stringent review process highlighting serious deficiencies, including inadequate facilities and failure to meet regulatory standards.

The colleges affected include the Noble Ayurvedic College in Junagadh, Sumandeep Ayurveda Medical College, and several others across the state. Starting with the academic year 2026-27, these institutions will no longer be allowed to admit students to the BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) program.

As a result of this cancellation, around 620 BAMS seats will now disappear from the state’s educational landscape. Students and parents are expressing outrage over this situation, especially given that these colleges charge hefty fees while lacking qualified faculty and adequate patient care facilities.

This crackdown reflects ongoing issues within Gujarat’s health education sector. Questions are being raised about how local universities and health departments approved such institutions in the first place. “Why weren’t actions taken sooner against colleges operating merely on paper?” said a representative from a student organization.

The implicated colleges are:

  • Noble Ayurvedic College
  • Sumandeep Ayurveda Medical College
  • Sardar Ayurvedic College & Hospital
  • Dalaiya Ayurveda College & Hospital
  • Limbadi Ayurvedic Medical College
  • Jay Jalaram Ayurvedic College
  • Shri Dhar Atulkumar Jani Ayu.Medi.College
