The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is preparing a Local Area Plan (LAP) for a 3.3 sq km area around Kalupur railway station. The civic body has submitted a proposal to its standing committee seeking approval to appoint a consultant for the project.
Kalupur railway station is currently being redeveloped, while a bullet train station is also being constructed on the premises. The Asarwa railway station is also proposed for development.
Under the LAP, the AMC plans to improve connectivity around Kalupur station by widening existing roads, constructing new bridges and identifying alternative routes to reduce traffic congestion.
According to a TOI report, an AMC official said Town Planning (TP) schemes are generally prepared for larger areas of 100 hectares or more, leaving smaller areas outside their scope. The proposed LAP will instead focus on micro-level planning for the 3.3 sq km area.
The plan will include widening roads, developing new routes, identifying land for public utilities and making provisions for future infrastructure projects.
Heritage Structures to Remain Protected
The LAP area includes heritage pols in Khadia, Jamalpur, Shahpur and Kalupur. However, UNESCO-protected heritage buildings in these areas have been excluded from the plan and will not be affected by road widening or other infrastructure work.
The proposed Kalupur LAP covers parts of Kalupur, Asarwa, Saraspur, Sarangpur and Gomtipur. Its boundary extends from Sarangpur Circle Road through Revdi Bazaar, Idgah Bridge, Chamunda Bridge and Sarangpur Bridge.
