The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) plans to develop 700 smart parking slots in Makarba and Science City as part of its urban improvement initiatives. The civic body is also planning to plant 20,000 trees along roadsides and central verges under a thematic plantation programme.
Of the proposed smart parking facilities, 200 slots will be developed in Makarba and 500 in Science City. The existing smart parking system at SOBO Centre will also be shifted to a more suitable location.
The smart parking system will allow motorists to pay parking charges digitally by scanning a QR code. Under the proposed revenue-sharing model, 80% of the parking revenue will go to the AMC, while the remaining 20% will be given to the operating agency.
Meanwhile, the AMC standing committee has sought explanations from contractors and consultants over delays in the renovation of eight crematoriums.
Standing Committee chairman Kamlesh Patel said work at the Hatkeshwar crematorium was delayed after groundwater was found at a depth of around 10 feet, forcing changes to the design. He said such issues should have been identified during the soil-testing stage.
