The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) carried out a major anti-encroachment drive in the Naroda-Rakhial ward, removing 160 obstructions from public spaces and taking action against vehicles parked illegally on busy roads.
The drive, led by the Estate and Urban Development Department of the North Zone, targeted unauthorised temporary structures, vendor stalls, banners and commercial items occupying public spaces. The operation covered the stretch from Shaherkotda Police Station to Kalupur Railway Station Platform No. 12.
Encroachments were also cleared from key locations, including Ambedkar Hall, Naroda Crossroads, Shardaben Circle and Potlia Crossroads, helping reopen blocked footpaths for pedestrians.
Stalls, Banners and Goods Seized
During the operation, civic officials seized 18 commercial handcarts and removed 28 unauthorised hoardings, banners and display boards. Another 114 miscellaneous items found occupying public rights-of-way were also confiscated.
The drive was supported by Shaherkotda Police, E-Division Traffic Police and the State Reserve Police (SRP) Force to manage traffic and maintain law and order during the operation.
18 Vehicles Wheel-Locked
Traffic police also acted against vehicles parked illegally along the congested stretches. A total of 18 vehicles were wheel-locked, while ₹13,300 was collected in fines and administrative charges from violators.
AMC officials said the action is part of an ongoing campaign to keep roads clear, improve pedestrian movement and prevent unauthorised occupation of public spaces. Similar drives are expected to continue in other areas of the North Zone.
