The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) health department sealed a La-Pino’z Pizza outlet at Lajamani Chowk in Mota Varachha after a video purportedly showing an insect emerging from a pizza went viral on social media.
According to available information, the Sarthana zone health department initially did not take action despite the video circulating online. The matter was later brought to the attention of senior civic officials, following which an inspection was conducted at the outlet.
The inspection continued until around 2 am. During the inspection, officials reportedly found objectionable material. The civic body subsequently imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 and closed the outlet.
However, questions have been raised over the health department’s handling of the matter. Despite the action taken, officials did not issue an official statement or publicly disclose detailed findings of the inspection.
The lack of an official explanation has raised concerns about transparency in the handling of the case and the details of the action taken against the outlet.
