The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is set to replace the old toy trains operating around Kankaria Lake with two new trains costing around ₹3.5 crore.The coaches for the new trains have been manufactured in Vatva, while their engines were made in Pune. Both trains are expected to arrive at Kankaria next week.
Trial Runs to Begin After Assembly
According to the Assistant Municipal Commissioner of the Maninagar ward, the coaches and engines will be assembled after reaching Kankaria. Trial runs will then be conducted, with the process expected to take around two months.Following the trials, the two existing toy trains will be phased out one by one and replaced with the new ones. Each new train will have a capacity of around 150 passengers.
Six Vacant Sites to Get New Activities
The AMC is also planning to introduce new activities at six vacant locations within the Kankaria Lake premises. The civic body has invited private agencies to develop these activities under the public-private partnership (PPP) model.However, the proposed activities will have to follow certain restrictions. Activities that generate excessive noise, bright lighting or smoke will not be allowed at the lakefront.
Existing Kankaria Attractions
Kankaria Lake currently features several popular attractions, including Kankaria Zoo, Nocturnal Zoo, Balvatika, Kids City, Butterfly Park and Nagina Wadi.The two new toy trains and proposed activities are expected to add to the attractions at the Kankaria Lakefront.
