The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) Food Department has sealed three units dealing in mawa and sweets after finding food safety violations during inspections.
At one of the units, a rapid test of kaju katri indicated that the silver-coloured foil used on the sweet may have been made from a metal other than silver.
Kaju Katri Unit Sealed
The Food Department sealed Shri Kanhaiyalal Mavawala, located near Kalupur Gate. During the inspection, officials used a rapid testing kit to examine a sample of kaju katri.
The test indicated that the foil used on the sweet was not made of silver.
Officials then traced the kaju katri to a manufacturing unit at Gujarat Housing Board in Bapunagar. The manufacturing unit was also sealed following the inspection.
Mawa Godown Sealed Over Licence and Hygiene Issues
The AMC also sealed the godown of Shri Balaji Mavawala in Vadigam, Dariapur.
Officials found that the establishment did not have a valid FSSAI licence and that hygiene conditions at the premises were inadequate.
Food Inspections Continue
The AMC Food Department said inspections of sweet shops, farsan outlets, mawa businesses and other food establishments are continuing across Ahmedabad.
Officials are checking food quality, hygiene standards, licences and other safety requirements during the ongoing drive.
