The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is planning a new bridge over the Sabarmati River to improve connectivity between Koteshwar and Hansol, particularly between the airport and Narendra Modi Stadium.
The project is part of the city’s wider transport infrastructure plans as Ahmedabad prepares to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games and bids for the 2036 Olympic Games.
Bridge to Improve Airport-Stadium Connectivity
The proposed Koteshwar-Hansol river bridge is expected to create a direct route between Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport and Narendra Modi Stadium.
The AMC has already approved two 30-metre-wide roads leading towards the Sabarmati River under the Town Planning (TP) schemes for Koteshwar and Hansol.
The civic body is also working on widening existing approach roads and developing new road networks around the stadium to improve traffic movement during major international sporting events.
More Infrastructure Projects Planned
A foot overbridge is also planned behind Narendra Modi Stadium. Meanwhile, construction of a barrage-cum-bridge is underway near the Sabarmati Acher Crematorium.
According to a TOI report, road alignments for the proposed river bridge have been planned. The bridge is expected to connect with a new tunnel passing beneath the firing range near the Taj Hotel.
The proposed infrastructure is also linked to the planned development of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave around Narendra Modi Stadium.
The projects are aimed at strengthening Ahmedabad’s road network and improving connectivity around key sporting and tourism locations.
