Ahmedabad residents will soon be able to report potholes, damaged roads and footpath problems without knowing their zone or ward number. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is preparing to launch an AI-based smart road maintenance system by the end of August 2026.
Just upload a photo
Under the new system, citizens will only need to take a photo of the road problem and upload it through the AMC Seva App or AMC CCRS App. The system will use GPS to identify the location and automatically determine the concerned zone and ward. The complaint will then be sent to the responsible officer.
If GPS information is unavailable, the location will be identified using Google location services and GIS mapping based on the landmark or location provided by the citizen.
AI will identify the problem
The system will also use AI to identify the type of road-related complaint from the uploaded photo. If several complaints are received about the same problem at the same location, an AI-based clustering system will link them together, helping reduce duplicate complaints and speed up action.
WhatsApp updates on complaints
After a complaint is registered, citizens will receive a token number on WhatsApp. Once the work is completed, before-and-after photographs will also be shared with the complainant, allowing them to check whether the issue has actually been resolved.
Citizens will also be able to register complaints through WhatsApp, telephone, email and social media, apart from the AMC apps.
AMC officials said the new system is aimed at making road complaint handling faster, more transparent and convenient. The civic body plans to make the AI-based system operational by the end of August 2026.
