A video from aboard Air India flight AI379 from Phuket to Delhi, which encountered severe turbulence on Tuesday, has surfaced online, capturing the tense moments inside the aircraft as cabin crew desperately urged passengers to remain seated and fasten their seat belts.
The 30-second clip, which has gone viral on social media, shows panic inside the cabin as a crew member repeatedly announces, “Please fasten your seat belts. Nobody should get up. Fasten your seat belts.”
The footage also reveals the aftermath of the turbulence, with luggage strewn across the cabin floor, overhead bin panels dislodged and visible cracks in parts of the cabin ceiling.
The aircraft landed safely at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport at around 11 am, but the incident left 17 people injured, including 13 passengers and four crew members.
Describing it as the “worst two hours” of his life, he urged travellers to always keep their seat belts fastened, even when the seat belt sign is switched off. He wrote that passengers were thrown into the air, striking the cabin ceiling and overhead compartments before falling back into their seats. For a brief moment, he feared the aircraft would not make it safely to its destination.
The video also shows several visibly shaken passengers, including a woman sitting with her head buried in her hands after the turbulence subsided.
