The 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow came to a grand close on Sunday, with Scotland officially handing over the Commonwealth Games baton and flag to India for the 2030 edition, which will be hosted in Ahmedabad.
In a symbolic handover ceremony, Scottish officials presented the Commonwealth Games flag and baton to the Indian delegation led by Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha, and Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi.The closing ceremony celebrated Scotland’s rich culture before shifting the spotlight to India with colourful performances showcasing the country’s traditions.
One of the highlights was an Indo-Scottish cultural performance that blended music and dance from both nations.India also ended its Glasgow campaign on a high, finishing fourth in the medal standings with 39 medals—13 gold, 17 silver and nine bronze.
With Ahmedabad set to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, India will become only the second country after Australia to host the event more than once. The country previously hosted the Games in New Delhi in 2010.
