Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) has become costlier in Ahmedabad after Adani Total Gas announced another price hike, increasing the retail rate by Rs 4 per kg with effect from August 1. The revised price now stands at Rs 94.02 per kg, compared to the earlier Rs 90.02 per kg.
The latest revision comes less than two weeks after the company increased CNG prices by Rs 2 per kg on July 19, when the rate was raised from Rs 88.02 to Rs 90.02 per kg. With the fresh hike, CNG prices have risen by a total of Rs 6 per kg within 12 days.
The increase is expected to impact thousands of CNG vehicle users across the city, including private car owners, auto-rickshaw drivers and taxi operators who depend on the fuel as a relatively affordable alternative to petrol and diesel.
Auto-rickshaw drivers have voiced concern over the recurring hikes, saying higher fuel costs are eroding their earnings. Many said they are finding it increasingly difficult to balance operating expenses with household needs as fuel prices continue to rise.
CNG has traditionally been viewed as a low-cost fuel option, but repeated price revisions in recent months have steadily reduced its cost advantage over petrol and diesel. The latest increase is likely to raise transportation costs and add to the financial burden on commercial vehicle operators and daily commuters alike.
