After three days of heavy downpours, Ahmedabad witnessed a brief respite on Sunday, with only scattered showers reported across most parts of the city. Despite the break, the city has already received 19.19 inches of rainfall, which is 53.31% of its average seasonal rainfall. A total of 21 areas have recorded more than 20 inches of rain so far this monsoon.
Among the highest rainfall recipients, Urban Health recorded 27.55 inches, followed by Sarkhej with 27.28 inches and Bopal with 27.18 inches.
Zone-wise rainfall figures show that the South-West Zone received the highest rainfall at 25.27 inches, followed by the North-West Zone with 23.65 inches. The Central and West Zones recorded around 20 inches, while the South and North Zones received 16 inches. The East Zone recorded 13.20 inches.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Ahmedabad is expected to witness rainy weather over the next five days. Thunderstorms accompanied by winds of up to 40 kmph are likely over the next four days, with heavy rainfall forecast on July 31 and August 1.
Meanwhile, the Ahmedabad Traffic Police has appealed to vehicle owners to collect number plates lost during the recent rains. More than 500 number plates recovered from flooded roads have been deposited at nearby police stations. Motorists have been asked to visit the nearest police station to reclaim their number plates or apply for new ones if required.
