A student-led ‘Gen-Z’ movement is set to gather momentum in Gandhinagar on Saturday, with organisers calling on young people through social media to participate in a protest at the Satyagraha Chhavni. The mobilisation, which has emerged without any formal political leadership, has drawn the attention of the Gujarat government and security agencies.
The protest comes at a time when public discontent over several issues remains high in the state. With the farmers’ agitation over the electricity pole issue yet to subside, the government now faces a fresh challenge in addressing growing unrest among the youth.
According to reports, the movement has largely been driven through social media, with students and young people expressing their concerns and coordinating participation online rather than under the banner of any political party or organisation.
Officials are closely monitoring the developments. Police and Intelligence Bureau (IB) personnel have intensified surveillance to assess the situation and maintain law and order. The reported scale of the mobilisation has also sparked political discussions, with observers suggesting that the movement could influence urban youth, a segment traditionally considered an important support base for the ruling BJP.
Meanwhile, reports claim that students have been warned of disciplinary action if they participate in the protest. According to the organisers, some students have been told they could face expulsion from hostels or colleges for joining the agitation. However, despite these warnings, the organisers say participation in the protest continues to grow.
The state government has not officially commented on the allegations regarding threats of disciplinary action. Authorities are expected to maintain heightened security in Gandhinagar as the protest unfolds.
