Heavy rainfall in Ahmedabad and its surrounding areas has triggered widespread waterlogging, with several low-lying localities facing flood-like conditions. The situation turned critical in Chharanagar-Rabarivas in the Sabarmati area, where rising water levels inundated residential neighbourhoods, forcing several families to seek refuge on their rooftops.
According to officials, floodwaters entered multiple houses as the water level rose rapidly, leaving 11 residents stranded. Unable to move to safer ground, they climbed onto the roofs of their homes and awaited rescue.
After receiving an alert, the Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services rushed teams to the affected locality and launched a rescue operation despite continuous rain and challenging conditions.
Fire personnel safely evacuated all 11 people, including elderly residents, from the rooftops and brought them to safety. Following the rescue, they were provided immediate assistance and shifted to secure locations, including the homes of their relatives.
Officials said the prompt response by the fire department and local administration helped prevent any loss of life. No casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.
Authorities continue to monitor the flood situation as heavy rainfall persists in parts of Ahmedabad and nearby areas.
