A Chinese food outlet in Surat’s Sachin area has come under scrutiny after a customer allegedly found a dead rat in a serving of Manchurian.
The incident, captured on video, has gone viral on social media and prompted action by the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC).The incident occurred at Jai Hanuman Chinese Center in Palli village under Sachin South Zone-B. According to officials, the customer noticed a black object in the Manchurian just before eating it. On closer inspection, it was allegedly found to be a dead rat.
The customer immediately stopped eating the food and recorded a video, which quickly spread online. Fortunately, the contamination was spotted before the food was consumed, avoiding a potential health risk.After the video surfaced, the SMC Health Department inspected the outlet and found unhygienic conditions at the premises.
Food Safety Officer T.S. Patel said the outlet has been issued a notice directing it to clean the premises within three days, carry out pest control measures, and submit a compliance report. The eatery will be allowed to reopen only after receiving clearance from the Health Department.The civic body has also imposed a fine of ₹1,000 on the outlet for maintaining unhygienic conditions.
The incident has once again raised concerns over food safety and hygiene standards at eateries in Surat, with calls for stricter inspections and enforcement by civic authorities.
