The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has introduced a special cleanliness drive along the city’s Heritage Route and Manek Chowk to keep the UNESCO World Heritage City’s major tourist destinations clean.Under the initiative, the Central Zone Solid Waste Management Department has put in place continuous cleaning, improved waste collection, and stricter enforcement of cleanliness rules across the area.
As part of the drive, five Cleaning Marshals have been deployed to monitor cleanliness along the Heritage Route and in Manek Chowk. They will prevent littering, spread awareness among residents and traders, and take action against those violating waste disposal norms.
The Heritage Route covered under the initiative stretches from Kalupur Swaminarayan Temple to Lambeshwarni Pol, Haja Patelni Pol to Shantinath Derasar, Indrakot, Popat Gokh, Doshiwada ni Pol, Challa Ode, Jama Masjid, Manek Chowk, and Juna Sher Bazar to Lakha Patelni Pol.
In Manek Chowk, the marshals will also monitor key roads, including Three Door Road, Pankor Naka to Chandravilas Hotel, Fuwara to Challa Ode, Manek Chowk–Juna Sher Bazar Road, Juna Sher Bazar–Masala Bazar Road, and Masala Bazar to Pankor Naka Crossroad.
To improve waste management, AMC has strengthened door-to-door garbage collection with additional collection vehicles, e-rickshaws, and sanitation workers for residential and commercial areas.
Considering the heavy night-time footfall at Manek Chowk’s food market, the civic body has also introduced a dedicated night cleaning system. Sanitation workers and waste collection vehicles will remain on duty throughout the market’s operating hours to ensure prompt garbage removal.
AMC has appealed to traders, residents, and tourists to avoid littering and use designated dustbins or hand over waste to garbage collection vehicles, urging everyone to support the city’s cleanliness efforts.
