The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has launched a pilot project using Internet of Things (IoT) technology to tackle rising noise pollution caused by excessive honking.
Under the initiative, YHonk devices, developed by YHonk Technology Private Limited, will be installed in selected vehicles. These smart devices are equipped with noise sensors that will monitor and analyse how frequently vehicle horns are used.
The project is being implemented under the Urban Noise Assessment and Mitigation Planning Program and aims to promote responsible horn usage by creating awareness among drivers and encouraging behavioural change.
In the pilot phase, the company will install the devices free of cost in 300 AMC vehicles across different categories. Based on the data collected, drivers will receive guidance and training to reduce unnecessary honking.
AMC said the findings from the pilot project will help the civic body develop long-term strategies and more effective measures to control noise pollution across Ahmedabad.
