The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has begun the demolition of the 53-year-old Subhash Bridge, marking the start of a major reconstruction project aimed at improving the city’s road connectivity and easing growing traffic congestion.
As part of the first phase, three spans of the old bridge were safely dismantled in the Sabarmati riverbed. Officials said each span was carefully lowered in a controlled manner to ensure the safety of workers, machinery and the surrounding area.The demolition was carried out under the supervision of technical experts, with the contractor adhering to all prescribed safety protocols.
The site was continuously monitored throughout the operation, and no untoward incidents were reported.To ensure public safety, the entire bridge area was barricaded and declared a restricted zone during the demolition. Entry to the site was prohibited until the work was completed, officials said.With the successful removal of three spans, the AMC has completed the first phase of the demolition.
The remaining sections of the old bridge will be dismantled in the coming days while maintaining the same safety standards.Meanwhile, debris clearance has begun at the site to pave the way for the next stage of the bridge reconstruction project.
